What Is A Logo?

I get asked often, "what is a logo?"...and for the most part, the answer is simple...

It's the face of the company.

It's the part of the company people see first. I always use examples like, 'Pepsi has it's circle with red, white and blue...Dove soap's is of course...a dove..." We're talking about the pictures and symbols that speak for the company and are the first thing people see, and on some occasions...the only thing they remember.

There isn't a person in the world who couldn't identify Pepsi's logo...even with OUT the name stamped across. It's because their marketing is so effective (and consistent) that generations of our kids years from now, will be able to choose Pepsi's symbol out of a line up of other faceless logos.

What defines a logo in simple terms are what it is you're going to do with it. If you plan to use your logo everywhere (product labels, business cards, specialty merchandise, such as mugs, tees, bags, etc.) then you are looking for a logo. Something that transfers from product to product, place to place...advertising your business with a symbol people will one day find synonymous with your brand.

What's the difference between a logo and tee design?

Well, a tee design may not be a long-standing product. It might be a temporary item and once sold out, won't be reproduced for an extended amount of time. It's mostly JUST for the tee and nothing else. If it's going to be used for mass purposes, it's a logo...and therefore costs more. Why? Because a logo that is a company's face is more important marketing wise, than a tee that will only be seen by the few who purchase it. As an artist, I have to see the value of MY product and anything that will garner mass attention will not just draw business for the client, but for myself as well.

Why is a label the same amount as a logo?

A label is as expensive as a logo, because it IS a logo. Now, if you have a logo (especially by me) and all you're needing is a design for a product line, it is still the same amount. Why? Because it, too is being mass produced. You're spending one amount to place your name on massive amounts of product. Exposure is everything.

I hope that people understand the value of a logo. I am doing everything in my power to keep my prices reasonable for the small business person. I want to be affordable...but, I also have to make money. I am creating customized logos, often using original art done by me. The art alone, is worth the money...and I've been told by my peers doing similar work as myself that I am "underselling" my product.

Here at Fancy Face Kreations...the hope is that you all as clientele and potential clientele, will understand the value of what it is I do here. I hope that the utmost respect is given to the time, energy and talent being harnessed to give each and every one of you a final product that you will fall in love with and be proud to tell the world where you got it.

God bless,

Kali Monroe
